ABOUT GURU
Sree Narayana Guru (1856–1928) was a Hindu saint and a great social reformer in India. Born into an Ezhava family, the Guru was the chief architect behind the social renaissance in Kerala. His teachings and reforms have helped in the upliftment of the socially backward classes in Kerala. He revolted against casteism and propagated new values of freedom in spirituality and social equality. Gurudevan, as he was fondly known to his followers, has been credited with transforming the thinking and beliefs of Keralites to an extent that was unimaginable at that point in time.
Realising the ideals of the Guru, the SNDP Trust was formed in Kerala to work for the upliftment of the socially, economically, and educationally backward strata of the society. Today, his efforts have borne fruit as Kerala now holds an inevitable position in social reform as compared to all other states in the Indian Union.
